What is the difference between Democratic Socialism and Communism?

I hear that they are both similar is ways, but very different in others. From how I understand things, both oppose Capitalism, which is very against Government participation in economy. I really want to make sure I have a tight grip on what these particular Ideologies are all about. I'm attempting to have some more political enlightenment, so I'm hoping to get some answers that will clarify everything.
