Are there still hereditary peers?

Are there still hereditary peers in the UK? How many are there and do they actually do anything? I know there were some reforms to this back in the 90s but didn't they stop the creation of new hereditary peerages so presumably there are still some around. Can they have a female heir or can only men inherit a peerage?
