Lunar Eclipse: Why did the upper left leave totality first?

If you were observing from the West US, then the moon was on its way toward setting when it came out of the umbra. As such, you would need to tilt that diagram about 45 degrees clockwise. When you do that, the top left of the moon is where it comes out.
